A Short Histopictographicalgrammatical Story of the Internet

This is not a mockery of anything whatsoever.

This short histopictographicalgrammatical story of the Internet offers one view of how we have evolved to our current technological state ... our current state of cynical naiveté, coupled with ambivalent obsession.  Scroll through for the answers you never thought you needed.

First, we lived in caves and threw things at animals

It wasn't a comfortable life, but took substantial gall

[note: substitute word (rhymes better but might discombobulate the genteel): balls]

People grew weary of barely surviving and pounding on drums

So they built some huts and began twiddling their thumbs

These people started thinking and thinking about what they could do

They thought about what their infant technologies could evolve into

Then they got perplexed, yes they did

They realized that they lacked a big power grid

In our fake history, at this point, the people only had in their defenses

A few little gadgets and their five little senses

The eye let them see

But could not set them free

The ear let them hear

But was just a mere ear

[note: It's true that the 1st ear isn't fully representative of the human ear, but it is a eye-catching graphic.  See more realistic ear on right.]

The nose was something that some felt compelled to disgorge

Just like this guy on the right, our president, George

The mouth was useful for eating and talking

But we needed more, the people were balking

We had our fingers to feel

But we wanted the surreal

We wanted to exceed sight, sound, taste, hearing, and touch

We wanted it so badly, we wanted it so much

We want to fit into pictures like this one

We want to be barred by nothing or none

We want into the machine of the universe

For better or for worse

So we built a machine and the stage was set

That machine that we built was the World Wide Internet.

And this is us now (a representative of the whole)

The Internet at this point is out of our control.
