Overview

Welcome to Technical Writing (Com 221). This is a "hybrid" class, meaning that part of our classes meet online and part face-to-face (F2F). We will meet F2F all three class periods on this first week of class. Then, we will meet approximately once a week and other times as indicated on the schedule, where you will find your weekly outline of things to read and do. If you have any questions, please feel free to drop by during my office hours or email me anytime. You can expect an email response within one business day, though you will probably receive one sooner.

About me ... I have a PhD in Texts and Technology, MA in Creative Writing, and BA in Liberal Studies from the University of Central Florida. In Spring 2012, in addition to two sections of this course, I'm teaching Technology and Modern Civilization (HU 335). In the past, I've taught and Visual Design (Com 364), Web Design (Com 411), Environmental Communication (Com 350), and English Literature and Composition (Com 122). As a freelance writer, I've covered issues such as digital communication, social media, radiology and oncology, sex education, financial services technologies, Web development, internal auditing, commercial real estate, banking, and legal issues.

The last article that I published was "The Evolution of Medical Imaging Technologies: Electric Meat and the Physician's Shifting Gaze" in Ea - Journal of Medical Humanities & Social Studies of Science and Technology. I'm currently doing some research in the areas of digital text communication, social media technologies, and sex education.
