We will meet online today instead of in the classroom. Please do the following:
1. Read the timeline resources listed on the schedule
2. Go to Timetoast: http://www.timetoast.com/
3. Create an account (or login through Facebook option) and create a timeline of when you acquired your own personal technology. You might start the timeline at your birth and indicate, for example, when you first remember using a telephone or a calculator, acquired a mobile phone and MP3 player or iPod ... Be as detailed as possible. Think back!
4. Save the timeline and click Share (underneath the timeline).
5. Copy the URL and post it on our Wordpress blog with a short discussion of one or more events that you think were significant in your technological "growth." (If you can figure out how to share the visual directly in the post, that would be great.)
6. Respond to at least one other student.
Your post will count as credit for attendance and participation. Also, this self-exploration will become useful for your later work in this course.
This activity is useful in understanding how technology affects us personally,
as well as how we communicate with others. Consider how you communicate with
friends now has changed over the past ten years, and how those changes may
correlate with this timeline (though the changes are not ALL about technology).
