introduction

You have entered Cosmic Scribbler. I'm an assistant professor of communication at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a freelance writer. I've taught visual design, technical writing, Web design, environmental communication, and English literature and composition. As a freelance writer, I have covered issues such as digital text communication, medicine including radiology and oncology, sex education, financial services technologies, banking, Web development, internal auditing, commercial real estate, banking, sex education, and legal issues.

I have a PhD in Texts and Technology and an MA in Creative Writing from the University of Central Florida. My dissertation, Green Chairs, Fictional Phalluses, Infiltration, and Love on the Rocks: Medical Imaging Artifacts Blown Up, explores the artifacts created by medical imaging technologies, using methodologies adapted from surrealists, semiologists, and visual artists. Click here for a longer explanation, and click here to read the introduction and first chapter. It's really just about problem-solving.

Not long ago, I wrote a screenplay called Revelations in Plastic, which I would like to sell. If you or anyone you know has ties to the entertainment industry, contact me immediately. In the event that you start a chain of events leading to my screenplay being purchased for a large, non-refundable figure, I would be grateful.

My MA thesis is a novella entitled Foodworld, recently published and available for an exorbitant price on Amazon.com. The story addresses fate versus freewill, and how people use technology and religion in similar ways to insulate themselves. The underlying problem is an electricity shortage that correlates with the internal power struggles faced by the characters in their quest for meaning and fulfillment.

NEW! Beginning in 2008, I protested the abstinence-only-until-marriage "sex education" program in Volusia County Public Schools - a program being administered by Pure Energy, an inept religious organization with employees masquerading as educators. As a result of that effort, Pure Energy lost its substantial federal funding, was ousted from the Volusia County Public Schools, and, also, lost its opportunity to infiltrate Flagler County's public schools. Review the Timeline of Sex Education Reform in Volusia County Public Schools (with some of my research and published reports/editorials) here.

If you are interested in supporting the effort to adopt a comprehensive sex education curriculum that is factual not constructed; is honest, knowable, teachable, and testable; leads to an understanding of sexuality and human behavior; encourages responsible behavior; and encourages tolerance of diversity in a pluralistic society, please contact me. Mostly, I just want my kids and the other children and teenagers in the community to have access to truthful information on health and human sexuality from trained educators in Volusia County Public Schools, as we expect of all other subject areas.

I wrote a booklet about artificial food coloring and children's behavior, in an effort to change school policies about food in the classrooms and lunchrooms: Chemical Colors, Brain Food & Children's Health. (The purpose of the booklet is two-fold. One goal is consumer education. Adults should know the risks that they, and particularly their children, take when they consume chemicals such as FD&C Yellow #5 and Red #40. The second objective is to persuade parents, teachers, and school administrators to stop serving chemically laden food in schools.)
